The living spaces
Days here play out across five reception rooms, each with its own mood. The original 15th-century hall is the showpiece – beams overhead, an inglenook fireplace and an adjoining snug with an 85-inch screen and a woodburner. A triple-aspect drawing room lies elsewhere, with doors opening directly to the grounds.
The kitchen is the engine of the house: a charming country setting with a state-of-the-art induction range, a breakfast island and a separate prep kitchen for when you prefer to call in the private chef. The dining room seats 14 beneath its own fireplace. When occasions call for more – birthdays, anniversaries, the whole group at one table – the barn next door takes numbers up to 32.

The barn
A grand barn comes as part of the stay – where the house comes together after dark. Grade II listed and cathedral-like in its 16th-century structure, it seats thirty-two, with a staffed bar, a nightclub-grade sound system, karaoke and a self-playing concert grand piano to keep things moving between courses. Drop the screen for a film, or dress the stage for something grander; a chef can be arranged on request.
Outdoor space
Closest to the house, a heated swimming pool, a croquet lawn and terraces angled to follow the sun. Beyond them, the estate opens into 500 acres of gardens, wildflower meadows and ancient woodland, with a tennis court and the games-filled barn a short walk away. Footpaths thread through the trees and fields, where deer appear at dusk and red kites wheel overhead. For days further afield, mountain bikes, the estate’s restored 1935 Thames launch and a chauffeur-driven Range Rover Autobiography can all be arranged.

Tucked into a secluded fold of the Chiltern Hills near Hambleden, Chiltern Estate feels entirely its own while remaining within easy reach of London.
Henley-on-Thames lies close by, with its riverside walks, celebrated regatta and waterside restaurants, while Marlow’s handsome high street and renowned pubs are only slightly further afield.
