At the back of the house, the ceiling lifts into a run of skylights and the walls give way to glass. When the steel-framed doors slide away, kitchen and terrace become one space. Panelled cabinetry keeps the practicalities out of sight, along with a walk-in pantry. Pull up a stool for coffee at the island or settle in at the glass-topped breakfast table by the window. For bigger occasions, an oval dining table is ringed with sculptural bouclé chairs, and the garden fills the view.
A five-bedroom holiday house in Chiswick with a Riviera streak: olive trees, a swimming pool and a cocktail bar in the garden.
Overview
From the street, this detached Victorian house in leafy Chiswick is all period manners. Step inside and Vada Collective’s reinvention takes a sunnier turn: marble and brass in the kitchen, walls of steel-framed glass that slide back onto the terrace, and a garden by Max Parker-Smith that pays tribute to the Mediterranean. Scalloped parasols, potted olives and a swimming pool set the scene; a pool house with a plum-painted bar is host to the evening drinks.

The living spaces
Two reception rooms, two moods. The open-plan lounge is where the day-to-day happens: deep cream sofas sit before a black marble fireplace, with separate seating angled by the bay window. Arched alcoves hold art books and curiosities, so there’s plenty to stay occupied on days holed up at home. Across the hall, the snug is the cosier setting. Dusky pink walls wrap around a second marble fireplace; mustard velvet armchairs and a pair of bouclé footstools gather around the screen for film nights.

Bedrooms & bathrooms
Upstairs, five bedrooms are meticulously finished. The principal suite is soft and serene: a scalloped headboard piped in black, plush carpet and a carved Louis-style settee. Beyond it sits a dressing room lined with panelled wardrobes. The en suite is worth lingering in. Marble floors veined in blush, a walk-in shower and a freestanding bath set beneath the sash window. Elsewhere, three further bedroom suites come with a character of their own. Crowning it all, a versatile room comes with a sofa bed and en suite.
Outdoor space
The garden is the headline act here, designed by Max Parker-Smith. Walls of glass give way to a pristine stone terrace: lounge seating under scalloped parasols on one side, a dining table and barbecue on the other. From there, brick paving leads past lavender, swaying grasses and slender cypress trees to the swimming pool. A striped double daybed waits for sunbathers; at the far end sits the home’s best-kept secret.
The pool house is the perfect accompaniment to days outdoors. On the lower level, a home gym invites workouts with a post-session sauna, plus a shower room to cool off. Above, a deep-plum painted lounge is the spot to end the day – grab a drink from the marble bar and sink back into one of the velvet seats.
The neighbourhood
Chiswick has the easy pace of a riverside village, with central London a short drive away. Gunnersbury Park is around the corner for morning runs, and its museum is housed in the Rothschilds’ former mansion. A little further east, Chiswick House & Gardens offers Palladian architecture, a historic conservatory and a café. Chiswick High Road and Turnham Green Terrace bring bakeries, delis and boutiques. On Sundays, the Old Market Place hosts a rotating line-up of markets: flowers on the first Sunday of the month, cheese on the third. Book ahead for dinner at La Trompette on Devonshire Road, a long-standing Michelin-starred favourite, or wander down to Strand on the Green for a riverside pint. Kew Gardens is just across the bridge.
