Six en suite bedrooms occupy the upper floors of the main house, each individually designed with elaborate wallpaper, select antiques and playful styling. The principal suite claims an entire wing: an emperor bed, a dressing room with a dedicated workspace, and a bathroom with a roll-top tub and his-and-hers showers. A second suite has its own roll-top bath, while the rest are dressed in king beds with en suite bath or shower rooms.
The grande dame of the Chiltern Manor. A 15th-century manor house to rent, with a private cottage, heated pool and entertainment barn.
Wrapped in 500 acres of Chiltern countryside, this eight-bedroom manor is the ultimate countryside escape.
An hour away from central London, Chiltern Manor is the principal residence of the Chiltern Estate – and the setting the estate arranges itself around. Grade II listed and 15th-century at heart, it pairs centuries of character with every modern comfort, then adds the extras: a heated swimming pool, sun-chasing terraces and an adjoining barn built for celebrations. The Chiltern Annex comes as part of the stay, adding two further bedrooms to the six in the main house, while a tennis court and games barn sit a short stroll away across the grounds.

The living spaces
Days here play out across five reception rooms, each with its own mood. The original 15th-century hall is the showpiece – beams overhead, an inglenook fireplace and an adjoining snug with an 85-inch screen and a woodburner. A triple-aspect drawing room lies elsewhere, with doors opening directly to the grounds.
The kitchen is the engine of the house: a charming country setting with a state-of-the-art induction range, a breakfast island and a separate prep kitchen for when you prefer to call in the private chef. The dining room seats 14 beneath its own fireplace. When occasions call for more – birthdays, anniversaries, the whole group at one table – the barn next door takes numbers up to 32.

Chiltern Annexe
Adjoining the one of the estate barns, the Chiltern Annexe is a 16th-century cottage with quintessential English charm and a sociable streak. An open-plan kitchen and sitting room make an easy spot for slow breakfasts, and a private door leads straight into the barn. Two bedrooms complete it – an en suite principal and a twin with its own shower room – plus a walled cottage garden all of its own.
The barn
A grand barn comes as part of the stay – where the house comes together after dark. Grade II listed and cathedral-like in its 16th-century structure, it seats thirty-two, with a staffed bar, a nightclub-grade sound system, karaoke and a self-playing concert grand piano to keep things moving between courses. Drop the screen for a film, or dress the stage for something grander; a chef can be arranged on request.
Outdoor space
Closest to the house, a heated swimming pool, a croquet lawn and terraces angled to follow the sun. Beyond them, the estate opens into 500 acres of gardens, wildflower meadows and ancient woodland, with a tennis court and the games-filled barn a short walk away. Footpaths thread through the trees and fields, where deer appear at dusk and red kites wheel overhead. For days further afield, mountain bikes, the estate’s restored 1935 Thames launch and a chauffeur-driven Range Rover Autobiography can all be arranged.
The surroundings
Tucked into a secluded fold of the Chiltern Hills near Hambleden, Chiltern Estate feels entirely its own while remaining within easy reach of London.
Henley-on-Thames lies close by, with its riverside walks, celebrated regatta and waterside restaurants, while Marlow’s handsome high street and renowned pubs are only slightly further afield. The surrounding Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty rewards exploration, whether by foot, bike, boat or car. Beechwoods, winding country lanes and abundant wildlife define the landscape. High Wycombe provides a wider offering of shops, cafés and restaurants, alongside its Georgian high street. There’s also a cluster of historic landmarks, from the landscaped grounds of West Wycombe Park to the atmospheric Hellfire Caves. Despite its sense of seclusion, London remains comfortably accessible – close enough for weekend guests to arrive by lunchtime and feel a world away by afternoon tea.
