Up on the first floor, the reception room has an easy flow, rising towards the light and moving between corners for working, reading and switching off. At one end, a dedicated study sits behind a glass partition – close enough to stay part of things, separate enough to get to-do lists done. At the other, doors open onto a terrace screened by greenery, making the journey from meeting to sundowner particularly short. Inside, the details feel reassuringly established: herringbone timber underfoot, a marble fireplace, shelves to pluck a book from and an inviting L-shaped sofa for everyone to find their seats.
Tucked away behind Notting Hill’s headline acts, this two-bedroom mews home to rent feels like stumbling across a calmer pocket of the neighbourhood – with Portobello Road still only a stroll away.
Overview
More country house than city bolthole, Ruston Mews brings HÁM Interiors’ richly layered, characterful hand to Notting Hill. Outside, Ladbroke Grove and the market stalls of Portobello Road are always on the move. Step through the door, though, and that energy stills. Warm timber and rustic textures lend the house an immediately settled-in feel: spaces made for gathering, bedroom suites on their own floors and a light-filled lounge that spills onto a terrace.

The living spaces
Kitchen & dining
The kitchen is made for lingering – around the banquette or circling the Arabescato marble island, morning coffee in hand, or with a glass poured while dinner is underway. There’s plenty for keen cooks too: a Lacanche range, walk-in pantry and generous preparation space. Subway tiles, shiplap panelling and low-slung pendants give the room the cosiness of a country kitchen, with just a trace of New York loft about it. Underfoot, stone tiles are warmed by underfloor heating – a small detail that adds to the kick-off-your-shoes sense of comfort.
Outdoor space
Just beyond the living room, the terrace feels removed from the city around it. High walls and planting wrap the decked space in privacy, while a dining table makes it a natural spot for breakfast outside or drinks as the day winds down.
Bedrooms & bathrooms
The two bedroom suites sit on separate floors – the guest room at ground level and the principal perched at the top of the house – giving each a welcome sense of independence. Upstairs, the principal suite is particularly cocooning. Courchevel Rose carpet by Sinclair Till is soft to the touch, while generous windows wash the biscuit-toned walls and bespoke wardrobes in natural light. The en suite is restful by design: a large vanity, sculptural Water Monopoly bath, Zellige tiles and honed chequerboard marble floors.
The neighbourhood
Ruston Mews has that rare sense of being tucked away without feeling removed – reassuringly local rather than itinerary-led. Think coffee, a market wander and dinner around the corner, with the quiet of the mews waiting when you return.
Start with pastries from Layla, before strolling towards Portobello Road to browse the stalls and shopfronts that give the area its character. Make time for a film at the Electric Cinema, or head south for a longer walk through Holland Park and the Kyoto Garden, with the Design Museum just beyond.
Come evening, there’s plenty close at hand. Straker’s, Caia, Gold and Julie’s are all easy favourites for dinner nearby.
